Bio-Waves is always developing new software and algorithms to improve data analysis methods for acoustic data, including a program to detect and measure minke whale ‘boings’ (“Boinger”, developed in 2010), an algorithm to automatically detect sonar pings (“SonarFinder”, developed in 2013), and classification tools and techniques for identifying beaked whale echolocation clicks and delphinid whistles (developed in 2013). Bio-Waves researchers and software engineers have also developed a free PAMGuard-based whistle classification program called ROCCA, which is used to identify delphinid species based on their whistles.
